One of our members, Robert Hayler, works for a company that participates in the annual Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon as a fundraiser for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. With 2020 being what it is, the bike-a-thon has been cancelled and Robert’s company asked their employees to come up with other ways to conduct fundraisers. So, Robert came up with the idea of having an event at our slalom course. Here is Robert’s fundraiser page:
Skiers will be given six passes through the slalom course (three times up and back) to run as many buoys as they can. The event will be free for skiers and spectators, but donations will be welcome. Robert has already been soliciting donations from people to meet his event goal, so there are no obligations from the participants other than to ski and have fun! We will probably work out some details of some sort of competition, such as skiing against your personal best, and there will be awards of some type.
We will be taking precautions related to social distancing by having skiers prepare on the boat they arrived on and pulling them from that boat into the course and returning them to that boat, instead of using a common starting dock as we have for some past events.
Also, we want to keep the focus on this event as a charity fundraiser, and so we are asking that participants and spectators not wear or display anything political or election related. Anyone doing so will be asked to remove such items from view. And anyone unwilling to do that will be asked to leave.
We will need a head count of skiers participating in order to plan our day, so please RSVP to this page or send an email to smlwaterski@gmail.com and let us know if you will be joining us.
I plan to ski.
